Hilsea Lines
Escape from the hustle and bustle of a busy city with a trip to Hilsea Lines. Whilst the area is still within Portsea Island, it's a world away from the activity of the city's southern reaches. Instead, you'll find here peaceful walking routes, serene waterways and a host of native wildlife.
There's also plenty to see and do, with sporting activities to try out, play areas for the children, and cafes offering peaceful rest stops and delicious pick-me-ups. The nearby North Portsea Coastal Scheme is delivering new sea defences to help protect Portsmouth from coastal flooding, while also improving public spaces and creating habitats for wildlife around the northern coastline.
Of course, this being Portsmouth there's history around each corner. In fact, much of the Hilsea Lines area is given over to old fortifications - the latest iterations of defensive buildings that have been on the site in one guise or another since the 16th century.
In this section you'll find all the information you need ahead of a trip to the Hilsea Lines, including everything from the history and heritage to nature and sport.
