A family trip to Portsmouth awaits!

Round up the clan and get away to the coast - there's loads to see and do in Portsmouth!

First up, how about a trip to the world-renowned Portsmouth Historic Dockyard? Not only does one ticket get you entry to all the dockyard attractions (including a number of ships that forever changed world history), it's a great place for STEM learning. HMS Victory Live: The Big Repair is putting the multi-million-pound renovation of Nelson's beloved flagship front and centre of the visitor experience, so you get to see up-close all the expert work that goes into keeping her shipshape.

You can also visit the Mary Rose Museum, where the ship's hull is more visible than ever before (if you last went on a school trip you won't believe the difference!). Go through the air lock to be in the same room as the ship, see the artefacts from crew members who lived on board, and delve into the deep to see just what the raising operation involved at the award-winning 4D cinema.

After all that, there's retail therapy, food options and even more to see and do at Gunwharf Quays. The outlet shopping centre offers bargain prices on brands including Adidas, Hatley and Nike, as well as sweet treats from Cadbury, Haribo and more. If that wasn't all, the centre is also home to 30+ bars and restaurants, a multiplex cinema, bowling alley, play area, MiniPort and contemporary art gallery.

The Gunwharf Quays complex is also where you'll find Spinnaker Tower, an emblem of modern Portsmouth and an immensely popular attraction in its own right. Head up to the view decks to see for up to 23 miles, all the while following the information panels to discover more about what there is to see. The brave can even walk across the glass floor, or head up to the top floor 'Sky Garden', with the wind coursing through its open roof to really highlight how high up you are!

Whenever you choose to visit, be sure to check out the What's On listings to discover all the events taking place during your trip. Portsmouth is a truly year-round destination with plenty for families to enjoy at all times, but this is especially true in 2026. This year marks Portsmouth100, and there's even more planned than usual as we mark a centenary of city status with festivals, free live music, exhibitions and plenty more besides.
