About
Armed Forces Day takes place on Saturday 25 June, and celebrates the military community - which is especially pertinent in a city with such close ties to the armed forces as Portsmouth.
The day is a chance for the city to show support for the men and women who make up the armed forces community: from currently serving troops to service families, veterans and cadets. The event's aim is to bring the local community together with the armed forces, veterans and cadets to celebrate and also to inspire members of the public of all ages to engage with forces-related organisations.
Armed Forces Day 2022 will be celebrated within Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. It will begin with a junior field gun competition at 10.30am, and will later include a performance from the Royal Marines Association Band. There will also be interactive displays, trade stands and activities for all the family, including a funfair and children's workshop (some activities provided by Aspex Portsmouth), as well as a wide variety of food available on site - including a BBQ, paella, drinks bars and ice cream.
The Dockyard attractions will be open to visit, but subject to their usual entry charges.
Anyone visiting Portsmouth to celebrate Armed Forces Day is encouraged to use the Park & Ride service, which has regular bus services that drop off very near the Dockyard gate.
