Portsmouth is a city built on stories.

From historic ships and world-changing events to a vibrant waterfront with stunning harbour views - alongside great shopping and independent restaurants - there's always something new to discover. From 24 October, visitors will have another reason to make Portsmouth their next day out destination with the opening of the new Royal Marines Experience at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.

This major new attraction invites visitors to get closer to the extraordinary people behind the Green Beret through hands-on challenges, powerful personal stories and more than 360 years of history.

But this isn't a museum where you'll simply stand and look. Can you drum along with the Band? Assemble your kit against the clock? Take on challenges inspired by Royal Marines training?

Using immersive AR and VR technology, visitors can explore the environments in which Royal Marines operate and gain a fascinating insight into the skill, determination and teamwork.

Alongside these experiences, you'll uncover stories of courage, friendship and resilience through objects from across the Royal Marines collection. Among them is the Green Beret worn by Marine W.G.C. "Molly" MacPherson during the Falklands War, alongside all ten Victoria Crosses awarded to Royal Marines, brought together to tell stories of exceptional bravery and service.

There is a Remembrance Room, a dedicated space where visitors can pause, reflect and pay tribute to those who gave their lives in service to their country.

Whether you're planning a weekend break by the sea or a day exploring Portsmouth's historic waterfront, the Royal Marines Experience offers a compelling new addition to the city's visitor offer. It's a place to challenge yourself, discover remarkable stories and gain a new perspective on what people can achieve when courage, teamwork and determination are put to the test.

Royal Marines Experience opens on 24 October and is included with admission to Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, meaning visitors can explore this exciting new attraction alongside the Dockyard's world-famous HMS Victory and the Mary Rose Museum.

Plan your visit and be among the first to experience Portsmouth's newest attraction.

Book your tickets online at historicdockyard.co.uk.

Please note: Any tickets to the Dockyard will include the Royal Marines Experience, so there is no need to look for a separate ticket or booking link.

The £15m project to open the new experience has been supported by a £4.4million grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, thanks to National Lottery players, alongside funding from the Garfield Weston Foundation, Royal Navy Museums reserves and private donations.
