If you need medical help
If you or someone in your family needs medical help during your visit, local healthcare services are available. To make sure the NHS can help the greatest number of people, please make sure you choose the right service for your needs.
- Pharmacists can help with minor health concerns, offering expert advice and over-the-counter medication to help treat conditions such as colds, coughs, headaches, aches and pains, or an upset stomach.
- Urgent Treatment Centres (UTCs) offer treatment for minor illnesses and injuries that require urgent attention but are not life-threatening. This includes cuts and grazes, minor head and eye wounds, sprains and strains, bites and stings, and breaks to arms, lower legs and feet.
- NHS 111 allows people to get medical help online or over the phone 24-hours-a-day, 7 days a week. Trained staff will offer advice on your symptoms and direct you to the right service. If needed, they can book patients into UTCs, emergency dental services, pharmacy or the Emergency Department which can help save time.
- The Emergency Department at Queen Alexandra Hospital is available for life-threatening emergencies such as loss of consciousness, persistent or severe chest pain, breathing difficulties, or severe bleeding that cannot be stopped. If you are in a life-threatening situation, call 999 or attend the emergency department.
