Children conducting science experiments at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard

About

Follow the Boom to find the Audio Assault Buggy. Get your nose tested, electrocute your family and try out strange and noisy instruments.

Pioneers are brave thinkers who try new things and solve tricky problems in clever ways. Head to the National Museum of the Royal Navy and explore how amazing inventions and incredible technology have changed the world, and try out some ideas of your own with Noisy Toys on a wild sonic voyage!

Join the roaming Noise Technician in the National Museum of the Royal Navy Galleries, where the echoes of naval history meet the sounds of the future. The Royal Navy knows the power of sound – from ship horns to sonar. Now it's your turn to take command! Learn how to rock a bass riff on a distorted rubber band or strum a melody on an egg slicer. Hot-wire a CD-ROM drive, make laser-blaster sounds with an amplified slinky, and experiment with feedback using balloons and contact mics.

This event is suitable for all ages and is free with a valid museum ticket.
