About
Head to Portsmouth Guildhall's Square Kitchen Cafe for fun kids activities and interactive crafts across a range of themes.
The Secret Shell
A mysterious shell has washed up on Southsea Beach, and it's said to hold secrets from a hidden underwater kingdom…
Session activities:
Paper Plate Underwater Worlds. Inspired by the secrets shared from the magical shell, children will craft their own underwater scene using paper plates as portholes to the ocean. With tissue paper, sequins, fish cut-outs, and seaweed shapes, they can layer their materials to bring their ocean world to life. Some may choose to make a coral reef, others a mermaid lagoon or a sunken pirate ship, every creation is a personal peek into the deep blue sea.
The Alien Visitor
An alien puppet named Zog crash-lands on the steps of the Guildhall and needs help understanding Earth…
Session activities:
Once Zog the alien has collected enough Earth knowledge, children can honour his visit by crafting something space-worthy. They can choose to build their own mini rocket ship using cardboard tubes, foil and colourful paper flames, or create swirling galaxy jars filled with cotton, glitter, and glow-in-the-dark stars. Whether it's a launch-ready rocket or a magical pocket universe, each creation will take their imagination even further into the stars. When the crafting is complete, children can step outside for some chalk drawing, mini games and a bubble disco!
The Jungle Parade
In the middle of the jungle, something is missing from the parade but what could it be…
Session activities:
Children will design and decorate their very own animal mask. Using paper plates, elastic, felt, feathers, and googly eyes, they'll craft the face of their creature, whether it's a mighty lion, a curious monkey, or a proud peacock. Once their masks are complete, they'll wear them during a short animal celebration to bring the story to life with movement, sound, and colour. Afterwards there will be chalk drawing, mini games and a bubble disco outside!
