About
Washed Out brings the excellent Soot Sprite back to Southsea, along with special guests WOOED, MaxwellTheBand and Jalou.
Exeter indie/shoegazers Soot Sprite was formed initially as a solo project by Elise Cook. However, as Elise says, "working alone felt so lonely, and the sound deserved a good line-up of musicians to make it sound how it was meant to" - so the band now plays with a full line up.
Blending post-emo with swathes of shoegaze guitar effects, Soot Sprite 'sketches their own aural landscape; the band's songwriting is rooted in their own experiences, transforming these into something universal.' (Clash Magazine)
Having garnered airplay from BBC 6 Music, BBC Radio Devon and across the BBC Introducing platforms, Elise and her band have toured extensively across the UK and Europe - even making two appearances on Glastonbury's Emerging Talent Longlist.
Now, with debut album 'Wield Your Hope Like a Weapon' getting significant critical acclaim, the band returns to Southsea for a show at the Edge of the Wedge - with support from WOOED, Maxwelltheband and Jalou.
WOOED is a three piece from Southsea that blends emotional post-hardcore with widescreen heartland rock; think At The Drive In covering The War on Drugs. Following on from their debut EP (which attracted plays on BBC Introducing), the trio are gearing up to unleash a slew of brand new tracks ahead of summer.
Southampton emo punks Maxwelltheband bring a Pup and Jeff Rosenstock-inspired sound, not least on latest single Idiot Doom Spiral. Expect a blistering live show honed from scores of gigs across the South Coast and beyond.
Ambient dreampop duo Jalou return to the Edge of the Wedge. Members Leigh and Jimmy have played countless shows between them both as Jalou and in previous acts, so you can be sure of a polished and charming set of bright, chilled pop.
