Portsmouth Guildhall's Classical Series for 2023/24 features a full and exciting programme, with performances from some truly world-renowned musicians.

Classical music has long been a feature of the programme on offer at Portsmouth Guildhall. Now, the South’s leading concert hall presents a greatly expanded programme of works that will see a wide range of new and contemporary artists, ensembles and orchestras welcomed to the city for the very first time.

The Classical Series 2023/24, which runs from October to May, will present the finest in classical music. There will be much to choose from, whether you're a seasoned classicalist, looking to discover something edgy and new, enjoy the music of the big screen, or even if you're completely new to the thrilling world of classical music and looking to learn more!

Exciting, new works to be explored include:

London Sunfonietta, a real highlight of the season and coming to the venue for the very first time, will be playing a concert of Minimalist works featuring pieces by Steve Reich, Philip Glass and more.

London Festival Opera will also make their first visit to Portsmouth, with ‘A Celebration of Opera’. Celebrating the world of Mozart, Verdi, Bizet, Puccini, Offenbach, Gilbert & Sullivan and more in a programme of passion, drama and humour, this will be a performance not to be missed for opera lovers and newcomers alike.

The exceptional Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra return with a Classic FM Hall of Fame concert featuring five of the greatest and most instantly recognisable works in classical music. What's more, Carmina Burana, Carl Orff’s epic choral masterpiece, will be performed by a full orchestra with the BSO Voices choir of over 120 members singing in monumental harmony.

The Portsmouth Chamber Music season, presented by Music in the Round, continues with concerts by Ensemble 360 and The Gould Piano Trio plus a new ‘Sounds of Now’ platform which nurtures new talent and explores the most exciting, artistic ideas today.

For those keen to trial a number of concerts from across The Classical Series, a Season Ticket option is available, which offers exceptional value for money, where for a set saver price customers are able to pick a number of concerts to enjoy.

As part of The Classical Series, a special programme of concerts and workshops for schools will also be delivered.
