Join Portsmouth Cathedral this summer for a series of relaxed, family-friendly Saturdays. Taking place across four summer weekends, Summer on the Southside is a celebration of community, creativity and connection.
Enjoy delicious street food from a rotating selection of independent local traders, sip something refreshing from The Dean's Tipple Bar, or visit the cathedral's resident coffee partner Nells, all set within a welcoming outdoor space on the building's south side.
Each evening features Screen on the Green – a free outdoor cinema experience showing much-loved films for all ages, from animated favourites to timeless classics. Take a blanket and cushions, settle in on the lawn, and enjoy the show.
Alongside the films there will be a pop-up busking stage with live acoustic sets and selected theatre performances from exciting touring companies. Activities are programmed with families in mind and the aim is to offer a safe and inclusive environment for all.
Entry to the site and screenings is completely free, so local residents and visitors alike are welcome to take part. Whether for a whole afternoon or just the film, there's something for everyone to enjoy at Summer on the Southside.

Labyrinth (U)
2 August, 8pm-10pm
Starring David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly, Labyrinth is a cult fantasy classic that follows teenager Sarah as she journeys through a magical maze to rescue her baby brother from the enigmatic Goblin King. Filled with imaginative creatures, dazzling sets, and a memorable soundtrack, this surreal adventure from Jim Henson and executive producer George Lucas remains a beloved favourite for all ages.

Muppet Treasure Island (U)
9 August, 8pm-10pm
Join Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, and the rest of the Muppets in this swashbuckling musical adventure based on Robert Louis Stevenson's classic tale. When young Jim Hawkins sets off in search of buried treasure, he encounters the charming but treacherous Long John Silver, played with gusto by Tim Curry. Packed with catchy songs, pirate antics, and trademark Muppet humour, Muppet Treasure Island is a joyful family film full of heart and hilarity.

Moulin Rouge (12)

Set in the glittering heart of 1890s Paris, Moulin Rouge is a bold and visually dazzling musical that tells the story of Christian, a young poet who falls deeply in love with Satine, the star courtesan of the famed nightclub. Starring Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman, and featuring a spectacular soundtrack of reimagined pop hits, this is a passionate tale of love, art, and sacrifice – told with Baz Luhrmann's signature flair.
Rated 12 - Contains moderate language, sex references and a scene of attempted rape.
