The area of Old Portsmouth was once referred to as the Spice Island, going by the ships that would dock there from Asia, to unload their exotic wares. It should be no surprise, then, that Portsmouth has a wealth of restaurants serving cuisine from the east. Albert Road is especially known for being a curry-lover's paradise, with a number of restaurants along the busy street serving award-winning dishes.
