The Royal Maritime Hotel is one of Portsmouth’s most valuable treasures. Located an eight-minute walk from Gunwharf Quays, this property is steeped in history.

The Royal Maritime Hotel was previously a ‘Sailors Home Club’, a place where they could relax and be safe while at the home port of Portsmouth. The hotel today is fully functional with some of the prettiest guest rooms in Portsmouth, as well as large conference and banquet facilities, a swimming pool, snooker and games room, and skittles. There is also a restaurant and bar that are open daily. The hotel is now a popular choice for family holidays, corporate stays and conferences.

The hotel has undertaken a major renovation of its guest rooms. The ‘top-tiered’ deluxe rooms are larger than usual and feature whirlpool bathtubs and roll-top baths with walk-in showers. At present 70% of the rooms are completely renovated, with the remainder to be completed by year-end. The hotel is offering a complimentary night’s stay with dinner to any member of the travel trade or travel press who would like to experience what this unique property has to offer. Just email marketingmanager@royalmaritimehotel.co.uk for more information.

The renovations are part of a rebranding initiative of the hotel which involves a name change from the ‘Royal Maritime Hotel & Club’ to the ‘Royal Maritime Hotel’. As a former sailors’ home, the maritime theme is captured in Royal Navy and maritime memorabilia, with artefacts, paintings and relics that reflect its past. One of the most treasured pieces is the visitor’s book dating back to 1863. It contains the signatures of Royal visitors such as King George V, Queen Mary, Queen Victoria & Queen Elizabeth II.

The fact that the hotel is a five-minute walk from Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and just 10 minutes from Gunwharf Quays and Spinnaker Tower is ‘icing on the cake’ for families with small children. The main town centre and the Portsmouth & Southsea train station is only a 15-minute walk. The nearest train station is Portsmouth Harbour which is just a six-minute walk away.

The main conference room - Trafalgar Ballroom - can accommodate up to 400 people. This room is popular for weddings, as well as corporate and association meetings, but for smaller gatherings there is the ‘Hood’ room which has a boardroom-styled setting and can seat a maximum of 30 persons. The room is ideal for small meetings or training sessions. The hotel can also host late night parties in its soundproof ‘Below Decks’ party room. This room has its own dance floor and built-in bar.
