Portsmouth is a sporting haven, with great facilities whether you want to be an active participant or would prefer instead to just sit and watch. From world-class sailing to huge running events – and our famous football club - Portsmouth has it covered.
We have a number of leisure centres located across the city, where you can swim, play racquet sports or train in the gym. Or if you’d prefer to be outside in the South Coast sun, why not head to one of the city’s golf courses? If that’s a bit too serious, we have pitch & putt too, as well as traditional crazy golf on the seafront.
From indoor pools to lidos and – of course – the sea, Portsmouth has plenty of places to go for a swim. There are classes and family-only sessions as well, so don’t forget your cossie!

Portsmouth is well and truly a footballing city, with many people seeing the club as one of the most important parts of our local community. That’s not all, of course, as there are a host of parks and open spaces, plus designated 5-a-side courts, where you can get in on the action yourself.
We are also blessed with a huge number of tennis facilities, so you definitely want to pack your racquet! There are outdoor grass and hard courts available, as well as top-of-the-range indoor facilities.
Alongside one of the tennis courts you’ll find Portsmouth’s beach volleyball area. We may have a pebble beach, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get your fix of beach sports here!
Whilst you’re down at the seafront, you can explore the water sports options available. From kayaking and sailing to windsurfing and wakeboarding, there’s much to enjoy.
If the weather turns, or you have a group to entertain, the city’s indoor soft play centres could provide just the thing. Many have sessions for all ages, so there really is no limit to how much fun you can have!
