10 reasons we're excited for the Rural & Seaside Show

The Rural and Seaside Show returns to Southsea this weekend, and it's promising to be the perfect day out over the Bank Holiday weekend. The organisers from the Rural and Seaside Show have given us the lowdown on what to expect at this year's show and why it's going to be great for every visitor.

1. A taste of the countryside in Portsmouth...

The Rural and Seaside Show is all about bringing the countryside to the seaside and making a fantastic day out, merging the best of both worlds in a great event filled with fabulous free fun. You'll feel like being at a country fair, all whilst enjoying being right by the beautiful Solent.

2. Award Winning Chainsaw Sculpting

Will Lee placed 1st at the European Chainsaw Carving Championships 2014, and he'll be at the Rural and Seaside Show with some of his astounding creations, including his life-sized Hobbit House pictured above. Over the course of the Rural and Seaside Show he'll be sculpting some new creations in record time so come on down and marvel at Will's speed carving talents.

3. Showjumping

On Monday, a new arena will be home to a spectacular showjumping display from All Star Jumping Events.

4. Great for kids

This year's Rural and Seaside show is really geared around a great family day out, with a whole bunch of fantastic activities for kids. Take a donkey ride, shout SAUSAGES at Punch and Judy or cheer on your favourite ferret, which leads us on to...

5. Ferret Racing

Ferret Racing might be one of the most unusual things you'll see this Bank Holiday weekend, but it will also definitely be one of the most exciting. Join famous ferrets such as Betty Boo, Sexy Beast and The Silver Surfer as they race against each other to the finish line. Great activity for kids to get involved with.

6. Puppy Power!

Whether you're a dog owner or a dog lover, you're going to be I puppy love when you visit the Rural and Seaside Show. This year there are dog shows and agility activities so that you're furry friend can get involved. For a full listing of all the dog classes on show over the three days, take a look at the Rural and Seaside Show Facebook page.

7. Get up close to the Heavy Horses

If you've never seen these magnificent animals up close, here's your chance. The Heavy Horses have always been a major part of the Rural and Seaside Show and this year there are displays to see them in action on Sunday and Monday.

8. Feel like an Olympian

You'll be able to try out archery in Henry VIII's moat with Southsea Archery Club. They'll be letting loose their quiver of arrows throughout the day, so why not see whether you'll be able to hit a bullseye.

9. Day out at the fair

Running alongside the Rural and Seaside Show on Southsea Common all weekend will be a family friendly fun fair. Southsea Common Fun Fair will be filled with fairground favourites and will be open Thursday to Monday.

10. It's free!

That's right. All three days of the Rural and Seaside show are completely free entry, so why not head on down to Castle Field for a great day out.
