The 7th of February this year marked 200 years since the birth of Charles Dickens in Portsmouth and the city is hosting a year-long festival of events to celebrate. Highlights include the opening of the Charles Dickens Birthplace Museum from 28th January to the end of September, a free Dickens Guided Walk every other Saturday from 18th Feb to 18th August and Dickensian themes for both Portsmouth Festivities in June and the Victorian Festival of Christmas in November.
Dickens 2012 - A Tale of One City, City Museum
This new exhibition is now open, exploring the links between Charles Dickens and life in Portsmouth. The Museum is open free of charge, Tuesday - Sunday and also includes 'A Study in Sherlock:Uncovering the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Collection'.
