Young boy playing on the Fort Nelson Assault Course

About

Have a blast at Fort Nelson this summer with a barrel-load of fun activities for all the family, including the ever-popular junior assault course out in the parade ground.

Kids from 3 to 14 will enjoy the challenges of climbing, crawling, balancing and jumping.

Tickets for the assault course cost £4.50 and are bookable in advance on Eventbrite

In addition to all the fun of the assault course, there will be plenty more to enjoy at Fort Nelson throughout the summer.

History will be brought to life with costumed characters appearing every weekend to recount tales about life at the fort from Victorian times through to the Second World War.

Summer activities run daily from Saturday 24 July to Sunday 5 September and as a national museum admission is to the Fort is free. Booking in advance is advised during the school holidays.

Also free are a host of children’s activities, including the ‘Action Stations’ trail and ever-popular sandbag maze, plus two daily museum tours at 11.30am and 2.30pm which can be booked on arrival.

There is so much to do and see for free at this massive Victorian Fort; with over 19 acres, the main tunnel, ramparts and outdoor space to explore, as well as a whole museum of treasures to discover.

Pre-booking your arrival time and parking is strongly recommended to guarantee your visit. This is because there will be restrictions on the number of visitors on site at any one time, to help keep everyone safe. You can visit without booking but you may have to wait to enter or return later in the day.

Please be aware that due to the continued impact of COVID-19, members of the staff team at Fort Nelson may have to self-isolate at short notice. Unfortunately, this may affect the ability keep the museum fully open and to deliver its usual live events programme. The museum will only be closed as a last resort if it cannot open safely. All updates will be communicated on the Fort Nelson Facebook and Twitter pages, as well as on its website.

If the site is closed to visitors, any charges for parking and the assault course will be refunded for the dates affected. Refunds will be issued within 10 working days.
