People at a service in Portsmouth Cathedral

In 2020, many experienced a Christmas where so many of the ways we traditionally mark the season were denied. This year, Portsmouth Cathedral welcomes all to celebrate this extraordinary time of the year, from heart-warming events to traditional carol services.

Advent Carol Service
Sunday 28 November
5.45pm - 6.45pm
A special service including music sung by the Cathedral Choir, and readings to mark the start of the Advent season.

Advent Retreat
Saturday 18 December
10am - 12pm
Take a pause in the midst of the Christmas busyness to reflect on the meaning of the season.  A quiet time of guided reflections and space to help us prepare for the celebrations to come.

2.30pm - 3.10pm and 3.30pm - 4.10pm
Journey to Bethlehem and experience the magic of Christmas, as we tell the Nativity story with words, actions and music. Suitable for all the family and especially children, who are welcome to come dressed as Mary, Joseph, or a shepherd, angel, or animal.

Midnight Mass

11pm - 12am
Welcome in Christmas Day with a traditional Midnight Mass, with music from the Portsmouth Cathedral Choir, accompanied by trumpets and drums.
