Felt dog craft activity at The D-Day Story

About

Take on the WW2 make-do-and-mend attitude this Christmas, and have a go at sewing your very own homemade decorations.

There are two workshops, the first shows you how to make a felt dog, whilst the second is to create a peg dolly angel and wreath. Both sessions are included in the museum ticket price, so why not take the opportunity to see the incredible Overlord Embroidery while you visit? The embroidery tells the story of D-Day in 83 metres of hand stitched panels, perfect inspiration for your next arts and crafts project!

Felt Dog

With expert assistance from wartime reenactor Jane Glennie, take part in a family-friendly workshop and learn how to craft a little felt dog. Inspired by a Second World War pattern, these cute canines will look fantastic hanging on your Christmas tree.

Advance booking is essential. Email MVS@portsmouthcc.gov.uk or call 02392 834737.

Peg Dolly Angel

Learn how to make a beautiful little peg dolly angel to sit on your Christmas tree, inspired by the classic wooden pegs used during the Second World War. Make your own wartime paper wreaths and garlands and discover how people improvised decorations in wartime when materials were scarce.

Drop in any time from 11am to 2pm for expert help from family activity specialist Vikki Phillips.

Both workshops are family friendly and suitable for children aged 7+.
