About

Join Lantern Light this Christmas and journey with Ebenezer Scrooge on a festive voyage of self knowledge, regret and redemption…

Going back to the tale’s roots as a classic Victorian ghost story, there will be scares, laughs and heartbreaks along the way, in this new adaptation written by veteran playwright Sophie Flack and directed by Artistic Associate Kerren Garner. It stars Seth Morgan as Ebenezer Scrooge, with an ensemble cast.

The story feels particularly relevant in our current time of austerity, widening wealth and social divisions and rising homelessness. Do we perhaps also need to learn the lessons which Ebenezer Scrooge does, to let go of our fear of the world and see each other “as fellow passengers to the grave – not another race of creatures bound on other journeys”?

In addition to bringing a ghostly festive treat, Lantern Light are linking with local homeless charities to collect funds and raise awareness.

“This fantastic performance really captures the spirit and morals of Dickens’ book. The values of looking after the needy and vulnerable are just as relevant today as they were in 1843 and Lantern Light’s production captivated our students’ hearts and minds. The production is true to the book and makes clever use of an engaging narrator to thread the narrative together. The quality of the acting was superb and simply but effectively put together. Thank you for putting on this show!” Ruth Nilsson, Davison CE High School for Girls

“The wonderful Lantern Light production of A Christmas Carol at the Round Tower … perfect pre-Christmas piece of theatre” Chris Attwell, Councillor for St Thomas Ward
