Charles Dickens' Birthplace Museum

In the year of his bicentenary, Charles Dickens’ great-great-great-granddaughter, Lucinda Dickens Hawksley talks about her latest book Charles Dickens, a celebration of the life of the man whose writing changed the world in which he lived.
Most people know about Dickens the novelist, but far fewer people know about Dickens the man. Lucinda will talk about the lesser-known aspects of Charles Dickens’ life including what he was like as a husband and father, his talent for acting, his desire to be a detective and his love of travelling. She will also talk about his social conscience, the changes he made in his society and why he still remains relevant today.

Lucinda is an author, art historian and public speaker. Her previous titles include Lizzie Siddal, The Tragedy of a Pre- Raphaelite Supermodel (Book of the Week on BBC Radio 4), Katey: The Life and Loves of Dickens’ Artist Daughter and 50 British Artists You Should Know. She is Patron of the Charles Dickens Museum, London.

Tickets are free but must be pre-booked through Portsmouth Visitor Information Service on 023 9282 6722, vis@portsmouthcc.gov.uk or the office situated within the D-Day Museum.

Admission to Charles Dickens' Birthplace Museum still applies and is free to Portsmouth library card holders.
