The Great South Run Weekend is an event for the whole family whether you are a beginner or an experienced runner, and this year it has even more to offer!
The weekend kicks off on Saturday morning with a new addition to the programme - a 5k run that you can walk, jog or run on a flat scenic course along the seafront, perfect for beginners.
For the younger members of the family there are the Mini and Junior South Runs which take place on the Saturday with plenty of entertainment to keep the children happy.
Sunday is the day for the Bupa Great South Run - the world's leading ten-mile running event over a fast, flat course that comes to Portsmouth every year.
Whether you are thinking of taking part or simply coming along to cheer on the participants you will be contributing to this fantastic weekend of running which is always a popular feature on Portsmouth's events calendar.
The Bupa Great South Run returns to Portsmouth on Sunday 27 October 2012.
Join 24,000 runners, athletes and celebrities in Southsea for the world’s premier 10 mile running event.
The flat route takes in the scenic sights of the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, including Spinnaker Tower and HMS Victory, which in 2011 saw the world-renowned HM Band of Royal Marines perform for the runners in front of the naval ship.
It’s part of a weekend of great running along with the Bupa Junior & Mini Great South Run, which takes place on Saturday 26 October. The Mini event covers 1.5km and is suitable for children aged 3-8 years old and the Junior event is 2.5km and suitable for those aged 9-15 years.
