Event Highlights in May
May starts and ends with a Bank Holiday - making it a perfect time for getting out and enjoying some of the many events lined up this month. What’s more, the temperatures should pick right up and the days will only be getting longer. That's surely enough reasons to get out and about this May, but if you need any more - read on.
Mutiny springs to life
May sees the glorious return of Mutiny Festival to King George V Playing Fields in Cosham. The dance extravaganza will be headlined on Saturday by US rap royalty 50 Cent, whilst friends of the festival Chase and Status will close proceedings with a DJ set on Sunday.
Other acts heading to the South Coast for the bank holiday rave up include Lethal Bizzle, Roni Size, Roger Sanchez, Chicane and Pendulum (for a DJ set).
The Guildhall will once again play host to the Portsmouth Beer Festival; the celebration of all things hoppy, which is now in its fourth year.
The summer sessions are a mainstay in the diaries of local ale drinkers, as they feature a huge array of brews from across the country. As it's spring time, expect a huge selection of hoppy golden ales and IPAs, alongside some stouts and porters for good measure.
This year will also feature a new gin and wine bar, alongside the many ciders and food options also on offer.
Bank Holiday Bonanza
The early May bank holiday wouldn't be complete without a few fayres and festivals. This year the ever-popular May Fayre returns to St Mary's Church, whilst Old Portsmouth's Square Tower will buzz to life with the fleeting Mayfly Festival.
Both will include stalls, live music and some local ales, in addition to the entertainment that will keep the whole family occupied.
