A chalk escarpment 120m high, with spectacular views across the harbour to the Isle of Wight. The area is also a designated SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest).

Sunny summer days bring out the butterflies on Portsdown Hill, look out for the Small Heath, Meadow Brown and Common Blue. It’s also home to some rarer varieties including the Chalkhill Blue and the Small Blue.
The chalk hill is also home to a selection of orchids – Bee Orchid, Autumn Lady’s Tresses and Common Spotted Orchid.
No fewer than 29 different species of spider have been recorded on Portsdown Hill !

A wide variety of birds are around to see and hear including the possibility of spotting a Corn Bunting, Lesser Whitethroat or even a Kestrel stalking its prey.

Conservation volunteers meet every Wednesday and one Sunday per month.
