The Mountbatten Leisure Centre is the city's premier sports facility.

The Mountbatten Leisure Centre is set in an attractive park adjacent to the shore at the northern end of the city. The centre is the city's premier sports facility and has a long reputation for hosting a wide variety of national and international sporting events.

The centre has undergone a major redevelopment and refurbishment. Construction of a new 50 metre pool and teaching pool, a large 150-station fitness suite, a new health suite and changing areas is now complete. The eight-lane athletics track and the cycle track have been refurbished and a semi-sprung floor and improved lighting have been installed in the main sports hall. The final stages of the redevelopment included extending both the Alex Way and Twyford Avenue car parks and a new cafe, studios and function room.
Other facilities on the site include two squash courts, dance studios, an all weather pitch and a number of tennis and netball courts.

The café and function areas provide attractive areas to relax and to enjoy a wide range of refreshments from snacks to main course meals.

There are a number of rooms in the complex that can be used as meeting or briefing rooms, for doping control and video playback requirements or as private offices.
There is a sports injury clinic based within the centre and access to physiotherapists and masseurs can be arranged.

The new (2008) Portsmouth Gymnastics Centre is situated adjacent to the athletics track. This has two full size sprung floor areas and a full range of gymnastics equipment including a number of items of equipment located over pitted landing areas, a tumble track and a fast track.
